Head off with us and your friends on your motorbikes for a weekend touring our fantastic region and fundraise for equipment for the Endoscopy Department at Cairns Hospital. Funds raised from this year's event will go towards a balloon enteroscope as part of the Foundation's "Show us ya guts" campaign. This equipment allows most of the small intestine to be viewed, which is impossible with a normal endoscope. This equipment will diagnose patients with small bowel bleeding, spots, ulcers, polyps or tumours.
If you have cancer in FNQ, your chances of survival are less than if you lived in a capital city. The endoscopy team at Cairns Hospital have been literally working around the clock to redress this imbalance. If you are referred for a colonoscopy by your GP, you will be seen within two weeks, which is as quick as anywhere in the state. Our endoscopy team are one of the most efficient in the state, with two specialists undertaking evening procedures to help patients be seen within the prescribed period. This equipment will bring the endoscopy unit to tertiary level "practically overnight". Once the equipment is in place, hundreds of patients can have their procedures here at home, rather than having to travel to Brisbane or Townsville.
Due to popular demand, this year we are returning to Mission Beach. Departing from Cairns on the Saturday morning, we will take a scenic route via the rolling hills of the Atherton Tablelands. You'll never starve on one of our fundraising rides, with sumptuous meals provided along the way. We arrive at Mission Beach in the afternoon, stretch our legs before getting ready to party! The Mission Beach Resort always looks after us well, and we will have entertainment, fundraising prize announcements AND importantly, the winner of the Harley Davidson motorcycle will be drawn.
